Policy Advocacy for Gender Equality is a core pillar of TGGA's mission to create an inclusive society where girls and women enjoy equal access to opportunities. By actively challenging deep-seated gender stereotypes and applying a rigorous gender-lens to institutional frameworks, the association advocates for systemic policy reform. This work focuses directly on addressing child marriage and teenage pregnancy, two of the most critical threats to a girl's continued education, personal safety, and long-term economic independence.
What sets TGGA’s advocacy apart is that it is deeply grounded in the real-world data documented through our own grassroots programming. Rather than relying on abstract theories, the specific school-level data we gather on why girls miss classes, face barriers, or drop out entirely directly informs the policy positions we present to government bodies. This evidence-based approach ensures that national conversations are shaped by the lived experiences of Tanzanian girls.
This strategic focus firmly positions TGGA as a powerful advocacy actor in its own right, moving far beyond a traditional service-delivery organization. By leveraging our massive grassroots reach across the country, we bridge the gap between local communities and national-level policy conversations. We ensure that decision-makers are held accountable and that the voices of young women are structurally integrated into the laws and policies that govern their futures.
