GLACC Advocacy Champions is an elite leadership track within our climate programming designed to transform passionate young environmentalists into powerful policy advocates. Through this specialized initiative, 53 girls have been intensively trained as Advocacy Champions—40 during Phase One and 13 in Phase Two. These young leaders are fully equipped to mobilize their own communities, challenge local environmental issues, and directly engage local government authorities on climate policy.
The champions actively lead public awareness campaigns, drive multi-stakeholder engagement, and boldly represent youth priorities in institutional spaces typically occupied by adults alone. The program provides a clear, measurable pipeline from grassroots school climate clubs straight to international negotiating tables. This impact is highlighted by our history of global representation, where four consecutive champions have taken Tanzania's voice to the United Nations Climate Change Conferences: Clara Benjamin at COP27, Madina Kimaro at COP28, Naomy Nassoro at COP29, and Esther Mkanza at COP30.
This advocacy model demonstrates that TGGA’s flagship programs look far beyond simple participation numbers. By investing deeply in individual capacity-building, the initiative produces world-class, articulate leaders who are fully capable of representing the rights and interests of Tanzanian girls on the global policy stage. This structural pathway ensures that our youth are not just witnessing climate conversations, but actively shaping the international policies that affect their futures.
